We’re ready for more of Idris Elba in BBC America’s forthcoming season five of Luther. But, as it happens, he’s working on a comedy, too. The eight-episode series, Turn Up Charlie, will be available via Netflix on March 15.
And, it sounds a little biographical with the lead character, Charlie, being a DJ. That’s probably where the comparisons stop, because this DJ is struggling, and Elba has a stellar second career at spinning records. He was just confirmed today to be DJing at this years’s Coachella music festival.
As well, Charlie is an eternal bachelor, and Elba is in fact engaged and set to be married this year.
According to the description, Charlie is given “a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a ‘manny’ to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter, Gabby (Frankie Hervey).”
Here’s a picture of Charlie as a wedding DJ, sloppily spinning, with what appears to be red wine spilled down his shirt:

And what appears to be an “after” shot, we’re assuming post-evolution of taking care of someone other than himself, with him killin’ it in a proper DJ booth:
