‘Tis the season for news about elves, so reports that Tom Holland is the latest star to play a pointy-eared creature are nothing if not timely.
The Spider-Man star will re-team with his Avengers co-star Chris Pratt in Onward, the next Pixar movie after Toy Story 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Described as a “suburban fantasy tale,” Onward will tell the story of two teenage elf brothers who go on a journey to discover if magic still exists. Casting hasn’t been confirmed, but we think it’s fair to assume Tom and Chris will voice the two lead characters. Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) and Octavia Spencer (The Shape of Water) have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Behind it all is director Dan Scanlon, who was previously responsible for Monsters University, and says he was “inspired” to make this movie by his relationship with his own brother.
Producer Kori Rae added that Tom “has an infectious charm and sincerity that makes you root for him in every character he plays,” while Chris “brings equal parts huge heart and fantastic humor to his character.”
That “huge heart” of Chris’s was certainly on display last night (December 12), when he tweeted about the news:
So thrilled to be part of this. I can’t tell you much, but… I will tell you this, when we visited Pixar to hear the pitch I straight up cried. This one is next level. God willing, in about a year and a half you’ll be moved as well. We have a BEAUTIFUL story coming your way. https://t.co/N9yuxPy6L5
