Andy, Woody, Buzz and the rest of the Toy Story gang are known worldwide. And while Andy may have grown up and moved on, there’s more story to tell.
Woody and his pals, and some newbies, are back for Toy Story 4. The story will pick up with Bonnie, Andy’s little sister. We also meet Forky, voiced by Veep star Tony Hale, who is actually a craft. He doesn’t think he belongs with this lot. When Hale was asked about providing the voice, he exclaimed, “A utensil’s existential crisis? I’m in!”
We suspect Forky will find his place, as that’s part of the theme of Toy Story, with director Josh Cooley saying, “The world of Toy Story is built upon the idea that everything in the world has a purpose.” The trailer’s soundtrack — Judy Collins‘ rendition of singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell‘s “Both Sides Now” — certainly suggests as much.
Hale is also known for his role on Arrested Development as Buster Bluth. Tom Hanks returns to provide the voice for Woody, along with other original cast members Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear), Annie Potts (Bo Peep) and Joan Cusack (Jessie).
Toy Story 4 will premiere in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.
