Katherine Waterston recently reprised her witchy role of Tina Goldstein in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald, currently in theaters. And now she’s switching gears, taking on a darker role in the 2019 noir thriller State Like Sleep.
Waterston plays a young woman whose husband died unexpectedly the year before. Her time of mourning is interrupted when she receives a mysterious phone call triggering a chain of events, according to ComingSoon.net.
She begins investigating the final days leading up to her husband’s death. In the first look trailer, a man, whose face we cannot see, says to her: “He died of a broken heart,” while delicately caressing her face.
We have a feeling there’s more to it.
Waterston is joined by Michiel Huisman (The Haunting of Hill House), Michael Shannon (AMC’s The Little Drummer Girl) and Luke Evans (Dracula Untold).
State Like Sleep, written and directed by Meredith Danluck (North of South, West of East), will hit theaters on January 4, 2019.
