The story of how John Boyega became one of the main stars of the latest Star Wars trilogy has been animated for a new documentary called Black Hollywood.

In the clip released by the BBC on Saturday (October 27), the actor behind reformed stormtrooper Finn tells the charming story of how he went from south London to a galaxy far, far away.

It involves a small fib, an expensive cab ride across London, director J.J. Abrams, and… activating a lightsaber in a restaurant. Okay, so that last bit probably didn’t happen.

Anyone who’s seen John being interviewed knows he’s a natural storyteller, but the animation makes it all the more delightful. Watch:

The third and final installment of the latest Star Wars trilogy is currently being filmed, with a view to it opening in theaters on December 20, 2019.
