The Innocents, an eight-part British TV series making its way to Netflix on August 24, stars Guy Pearce (Jack Irish) in the lead. In the just-dropped trailer, he examines shapeshifters who don’t know who or what they are… yet.
The story revolves around two teens, June (Sorcha Groundsell) and Harry (Percelle Ascott), who run away together. The pair get some much-needed relief from their oppressive families, but it’s short-lived. Somehow, June has shapeshifted into an older man she ran into while on a walk, but she has no idea how it happened.
Pearce plays a man named Halvorson, who’s working to help the runaways. He seems to have an insight into the supernatural condition, which June’s mother Elena (Laura Birn) also has.
In the trailer, Elena, says, “I wouldn’t wish this on anybody.”
It appears to be out of her control, though. Halvorson steps in, running experiments on “the innocents” in an attempt to find answers:
Halvorson comes across as being on their side, but it may not be completely selfless work, because we hear one of his operatives, say, “June’s not like the other women. She’s everything you’re looking for.”
June’s boyfriend Harry stands by her, even though she’s turned into a middle-aged man, at least on the outside. The series’ description says June will have to choose between her loyal beau and her family.
We’d think her first objective would be shapeshifting back to her original form — just sayin’.
We can also look for Pearce in Mary Queen of Scots, opposite Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan, which hits theaters on December 7.
If you could shapeshift, who or what would you turn into?
