If Jane Krakowski‘s 30 Rock character Jenna Maroney was cast as mom, she’d have a complete breakdown over no longer being the starlet. But the real-life actress is a professional and transitioning into just such a new role seamlessly.

She’ll play the mother of early 19th century poet Emily Dickinson in Apple’s forthcoming 10-part comedy series, Dickinson. Emily, who’ll be played by Hailee Seinfeld (True Grit), was a bit of a recluse, so learning more about her background and family will be interesting.

What with Emily never leaving the house, and her mother becoming chronically ill, it doesn’t sound like a barrel of laughs, but, of course, humor can be pulled from the darkest of scenarios.

The series’ description provides some more details: “It takes viewers into the world of Emily, audaciously exploring the constraints of society, gender, and family from the perspective of a budding writer who doesn’t fit into her own time through her imaginative point of view.”

The Affair writer Alena Smith is the show’s creator, and she tweeted her excitement about Krakowsi joining the cast. David Gordon Green (Red Oaks) will direct.

In addition to being 30 Rock alum, Krakowski currently stars in the fan favorite series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015-2019).

Production on Dickinson is in the early stages, so we’ll leave you with this classic Jenna moment:

Can you picture Jane Krakowski in a corset and Victorian updo?
