Luke Evans (The Three Musketeers, The Girl on the Train) has signed on to star in the WWII action movie Midway alongside Woody Harrelson (Now You See Me) and Mandy Moore (This is Us).

The film is based on the true story of the Battle of Midway, the 1942 Pacific naval clash that saw the U.S. best Japan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evans will take on the role of real life U.S. Naval Commander Wade McClusky. Harrelson will portray Admiral Chester Nimitz while Moore’s role is yet to be announced. Action film aficionado Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) is set to direct.

War film buffs will know this isn’t the first feature to tell the story of the Battle of Midway. It was also dramatized in a 1976 movie starring Charlton Heston and Henry Fonda:

Evans, who starred in The Girl on the Train with Emily Blunt, is currently filming Angel of Mine (set for a 2019 release) opposite Noomi Rapace (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

The Welsh actor got his start in theater, starring in productions like Boy George‘s 2002 stage musical Taboo and the 2007 West End Revival of RentThis Anglophenia snap shot captures his early days to mega star transformation.

Midway is in pre-production with a release date still to come.
