We’ve already seen Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, but the official Venom trailer released last night (April 23) shows him in his alien form up against Riz Ahmed.

The Dunkirk star plays a journalist who gains incredible powers when his body becomes host to an alien “symbiotic,” while The Night Of star plays Carlton Drake, a corrupt businessman who wants to harness the power of symbiotes to prolong life.

The trailer also features co-stars Michelle Williams, who plays Eddie’s girlfriend Ann Weyingand, and Jenny Slate as Dora Skirth, a scientist working for the Life Foundation. What really got fans excited, though, is that we finally get to see Venom itself.

Tom reportedly spent hours in a motion capture suit to play the alien life form, whose frightening face and gooey arms were added later with CGI.

The poster released alongside the trailer shows him mid-transformation:

Both Tom and Riz were at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last night (April 23), where footage from the movie received a positive response, according to Variety.

“Being part of this movie is a dream come true,” Tom said. “He’s one of my favorite characters as well.”

Venom opens in theaters on October 5, 2018.
