A sequel for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with lead actor Eddie Redmayne returning as Newt Scamander, is scheduled to hit theaters November 16, 2018. Which makes tomorrow (11/16) exactly one year prior to its release.
Already Warner Bros. is gearing up for the premiere, just today sharing a tease of what’s to come — a picture of two wands — via the Fantastic Beasts twitter account:

Scamander’s wand, at least in the original film, is made of wood. So, whose fancy wands are these?
While specifics are pretty tightly wrapped, some plot details have been released, and it sounds like it’s going to be a war of the wizards. The story opens in 1927, just a few months after the ending of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, when Scamander revealed the identity of Gellert Grindewald (Johnny Depp).
Could the wands represent the two sides of the wizarding world?
Here’s the official description from WB to fill in the blanks:
“Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause – elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander.”
Apparently there’s more info heading this way, with the above Tweet’s caption reading, “Check back tomorrow for more.” Will it elaborate on the first look photo? Or, with filming on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 is in progress, could it mean we’ll get to sneak a peek at some early footage?
It’s probably best to wait and see. Which we shall do, on the edge of our seat, poised to update this space with the follow-up “second look.”
Updated on November 16: And, here it is! The second announcement is a poster, versus footage, but… the official title is included:
To backtrack, in case you need a refresher, the original Fantastic Beasts comes from the magical mind of J.K. Rowling and is a spin-off of her Harry Potter series. This prequel revolves around the aforementioned British magician Newt Scamander (Redmayne), who travels to NYC in the 1920s. And, as the title suggests, he accidentally releases a handful of fantastic beasts and is tasked with finding them.
In addition to Redmayne, we can look for Katherine Waterston and Dan Fogler, who are reprising their roles as Tina and Jacob, respectively.
There will be some new faces joining the returning cast, including Jude Law (The Young Pope) as Dumbledore, before he became the Headmaster of Hogwarts. We had a brief look at Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Leta Lestrange in a moving photo in the first film, but her character will get more screen time in the follow-up. Callum Turner (War & Peace) will star as Newt’s brother, Theseus Scamander, and you can look for Claudia Kim (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as an attraction at a wizarding circus, reports Variety.
David Yates, who directed the original, is also helming this sequel.
