It is officially official: Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s Fleabag is getting a second season, premiering in 2019. The dark comedy, which follows the exploits of an unnamed Londoner, who only goes by Fleabag (Waller-Bridge), will be available via Amazon Prime in over 200 countries, including the U.S., according to an announcement from Amazon. Viewers in the U.K. can look for Fleabag on the BBC.
Waller-Bridge talked about what to expect in the second season, which we covered here at Anglo three months ago, saying, “The promise I made is that it will be something completely different. It will still be her and her story, but in a completely different time of her life.”
She elaborates on that decision, explaining, “You know how parts of your life feel different to you, when you look back nostalgically? I just sort of felt like that series should just feel like a stage in her life when that happened.”
Waller-Bridge’s alter ego, Fleabag, isn’t the only one who’ll be making some changes. The actress, who also created the successful series, is entering a new stage in her own life and career. She’s set to star in the upcoming Han Solo film and is showrunning the forthcoming BBC America series Killing Eve.
Originally a one-woman stage show back in 2013, Waller-Bridge adapted the performance into a TV series, premiering on BBC Three in 2016. Following the success of the TV show, in 2016 she returned to the SoHo Theatre where she originally performed the one-woman show, for a short-run and sort of homecoming for Fleabag.
In case you missed it, here’s a look at the trailer for season one:
2019 may seem a way off, but we can look forward to Killing Eve, which premieres in 2018. So we have plenty of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s work to look forward to.
