In an earlier post we reported on the variety program The Gong Show, originally kicking off in the 1970s, getting a revival this month. And, the legendary British personality Tommy Maitland has signed on to be the master of ceremonies, who may or may not actually in fact be actor Mike Meyers (who was born in Canada and holds both U.K. and U.S. citizenship).

We now have some new footage of the show itself, revealing acts and familiar celebrity guest judges, which might give you an idea of what to expect… and help determine who this “cheeky monkey” of a host really is, which has yet to be officially confirmed:

If the above isn’t enough to get to know the host, here’s Will Arnett giving him a proper introduction on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

The true identity of Maitland may be a bit of a mystery, but the show follows a pretty standard formula: the guests come on to perform their acts, if it’s not so great, they may be kicked off at the sound of the gong. If they make it past the dreaded bell tone, then the judges will determine their fate. The host keeps it all running smoothly.

The Gong Show will be taped in front of a live audience in Los Angeles and is set to premiere later this month on June 22. Celebrity guest judges have already been confirmed, including but not limited to: Zach Galifianakis, Alison Brie, Andy Samberg, Elizabeth Banks, Joel McHale, Dana Carvey, Will Forte, Jack Black and Anthony Anderson.

In case you missed it, here’s a look back at the original with the late Chuck Barris hosting:
