The official teaser trailer for Paddington 2 was released today (May 30), giving us our first look at Hugh Grant as the delightfully monikered baddie Phoenix Buchanan.

Ben Whishaw is back (albeit in animated form) as the marmalade-loving bear from darkest Peru, while Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins return as Mr. and Mrs. Brown, and Peter Capaldi, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, and Imelda Staunton all reprise their roles from the original 2014 film.

But it is Hugh’s character of “faded and narcissistic actor” Phoenix who looks set to be this film’s bad guy, though in a film as charming as this, the villain is decidedly more “dastardly” than truly “evil.”

Sure enough, Hugh is on full moustache-twirling form in the trailer, seen first performing in front of an audience in a natty suit, then muttering the phrase “the hunt begins” from within the helmet of a very fetching suit of armor.

Meanwhile new fellow cast member Brendan Gleeson can be glimpsed briefly wearing full stripey prison uniform as safecracker Knuckles McGinty:

All the ingredients are there for a sequel that lives up to the original, which became a surprise box office hit when it was released nearly three years ago. The Mighty Boosh director Paul King returns to helm the whole affair, having co-written the script with fellow Boosh alumnus Simon Farnaby.

This time around, the story concerns Paddington’s quest to apprehend the thief of a rare pop-up book he has bought for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, and we’d bet our bottom dollar that one of Phoenix or Knuckles (or both) has got something to do with it.

We’ve got a little longer to wait until we find out just what they’re up to, however. Paddington 2 may open in the U.K. in November, but it’s not due in U.S. theaters until January 18, 2018.

Do you think Hugh makes a good baddie?
