We saw Chris Hemsworth as Thor looking for a day job in a recent Team Thor video. And, now, we finally see what the god of thunder gets up to in the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok.
The hero from Asgard is no longer residing on Earth, with the third installment taking place in the cosmos, so he doesn’t necessarily have to worry about making rent.
It’s not quite a job-job in the traditional sense, but he has landed himself in a gladiator pit. He is definitely being put to work, and, for that matter, he looks the part, with his long golden locks cropped Caesar-style. Speaking of work, he’s matched up with a former co-worker to battle in the arena. Thor surprises the crowd, particularly the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), shouting in glee, “YEEEEEES. We know each other. He’s a friend from work.”
His so-called “friend from work” does not seem all that happy to see Thor, though.
Let’s just say the fellow Marvel colleague gets a little hot, or more like green in this case, under the collar when turned up.
You can check out the match-up for yourself with the first look at the footage below, set to Led Zeppelin‘s “Immigrant Song”:
Thor isn’t in this alone. We see Tom Hiddleston return as Loki, Thor’s semi-loyal half-brother, in all his glory. Loki is still cool as ever, striding in at 1:07. He appears to have brushed off the dust from his time spent in prison, as seen in Thor: The Dark World. We had a brief look at Cate Blanchett as the new baddie in town, Hela, but now we really get to see the goddess of death in action and in her impressive headdress. The first look also introduces us to Valykyriek, played by Tessa Thompson.
But, do you know who is missing from the trailer? Oh, just Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Do you think Marvel is holding onto that bit of footage because we’re on the edge of our seats? Possibly. We’ll have to wait and see where the good doctor fits into this cosmic adventure.
While not in the trailer, we can also look for other Thor regulars in the film itself, including Idris Elba as the gatekeeper Heimdall and Anthony Hopkins as King Odin.
Thor: Ragnorak, directed by Taika Waititi (Eagle vs. Shark), hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
