Just a few weeks ago we got word that Jude Law would be playing a young Dumbledore against Johnny Depp‘s Grindelwald in the next installment of the Harry Potter franchise, and now comes news that another role has been filled.

Variety is reporting that Callum Turner will play Theseus Scamander, brother of Newt, the British magizoologist played by Eddie Redmayne. And yeah, if we squint our eyes, we can see the family resemblance.

Callum’s name not ringing any bells? Well, you might recognize him from War & Peace, where he played that scoundrel Anatole Kuragin, who attempts to elope with Natasha (Lily James). Or then there’s Green Room, a 2015 horror film starring Sir Patrick Stewart, that saw him play the singer of a punk band forced to flee a group of neo-Nazis. You might even have spotted him in the second season of Ripper Street as Philip.

So it’s fair to say Callum’s not yet a household name, but his role in Fantastic Beasts is set to change all that. According to the Harry Potter wiki, Theseus is an Auror, which is basically like the magic FBI. Theseus is also supposed to be Newt’s older brother, so Callum, who’s almost ten years younger than Eddie, might have some growing up to do.

Callum is apparently still only “in talks” for the role, but his casting does shed some light on what the Fantastic Beasts sequel might cover.

So far all we know it’s set in Paris in 1926, and that it takes place after the events of the first Fantastic Beasts movie, which was set in 1920s New York. Eddie Redmayne will of course be reprising his role as Newt Scamander, the wizard who writes a textbook detailing magical animals that is handed out 70 years later to all first year students at Hogwarts, including one Harry Potter.

The film will be the second of five outlining the backstory to the film and book where it all began, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and is due to start filming this summer for a November 2018 release.

So, shall we see Dumbledore and Grindelwald finally confront one another? Will we find out what led to Newt being expelled from Hogwarts? And what exactly happened to Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller) at the end of the last movie?

Callum’s role may be a small detail, but right now we’re desperate to know anything about the new film.

Are you excited about this casting?
