We’ve been waiting so long to get a first look at Dame Helen Mirren as a baddie in the Fast and Furious franchise, but she’s been waiting even longer to take on the role. Apparently, she’s had this on her wish-list for a while. Mirren mentioned her action thriller aspirations in passing to FF star Vin Diesel, and… bam. There you go, she made it happen.
We are not all that surprised Diesel, who’s also an executive producer on the movie, would want the dame on board. Who wouldn’t?
And now we get to see what all the fuss is about. As well, we learn a bit more about her character, Magdalene Shaw. She’s the mother to brothers Deckard and Owen Shaw, played respectively by Jason Statham and Luke Evans. Good genes in that family, right?
The footage recently released, starring Mirren, is brief. But, she sneaks in a slap.
Okay, perhaps it’s more of a loving “tap,” to snap her boy (Statham) out of a daze:
Surely Mirren, as the tough guy’s mother, is the only one who could get away with such a bold move, and we’re excited to see more of her in this role.
Thankfully, the wait for the full movie is almost over, with the eighth installment of The Fate of the Furious hitting theaters on Friday, April 14.
We can also look for FF alum Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tyrese Gibson who reprise their roles seen in the earlier films. New additions to the Fast and Furious family include Charlize Theron as Cipher and Scott Eastwood as Eric Reisner.
