Karen Gillan entered our world as Amy Pond, the beloved companion to the Doctor and wife of fellow companion Rory Pond, portrayed by Arthur Darvill. But, as we know, the time comes for companions to move on. And, so she did. Gillan’s run on DW came to an end in 2013, and straight out of the gate she made her way to the mega Marvel universe, taking on the role of Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, hitting theaters in 2014. The story revolves around a group of intergalactic criminals, who put their bad ways to good use, i.e. saving the world.
She’s already completed filming the sequel, Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 2017). She’ll be reprising her role as Nebula, joining other familiar faces like, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Nathan Fillion as Simon Williams, and Kurt Russel as Ego. And now she’s been spotted on set, in character (well, partially, we can see her human skin peeking out of her robe), for the next installment of the Avengers series, Infinity War (May 2018).
And how does she spend her time in between filming scenes? Oh, you know, just hanging out with another familiar face, Stan Lee, co-founder of Marvel, as seen in her below Instagram snap:
Lee is practically an actual, street-level superhero, touching so many people’s lives, including, of course, Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, as seen in the below clip when the super mind meets his super idol:
We love that Lee is on set, which isn’t all that surprising because he makes a habit of appearing in most of his films and TV series when possible; but, we also want to know, what’s going on with Nebula these days?
Gillan talked to Cinema Blend last year about what to expect of the reformed cyborg assassin in Vol. 2, out this summer, saying, “I think what I’m really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we’re going to see a little bit more of that, and it’s going to be a bit more fleshed out.”
Gamora is played by Zoe Saldana, who will return to reprise the role. Gamora and Nebula were raised together as the mad titan Thanos’ adopted daughters. The two bonded over their disdain for their “father,” using the term loosely.
We can also look for Gillan in the sci-fi thriller, The Circle (April 2017), starring opposite Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. She’s completed filming on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (December 2017), a reboot of the 1995 original starring Robin Williams. The modernized Jumanji, featuring a video game versus a board game, also stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
Avengers: Infinity War, also starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Brie Larson, will hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
