Billie Piper and John Simm may never have shared the screen in Doctor Who, but they were both big parts of the show alongside Tenth Doctor David Tennant. But Deadline is reporting that they will finally appear on screen together.

They’ll both be starring in Collateral, a new BBC drama billed as a “gripping, high octane thriller” that will air on Netflix in the U.S.

Set over the course of four days, the four-part series centers on the fatal shooting of a pizza deliveryman and the repercussions for the local community. John plays politician David Mars, who becomes instantly embroiled in the drama thanks to his turbulent relationship with his troubled and unpredictable ex-girlfriend Karen (Piper).

Meanwhile Spooks fans will recognize Nicola Walker, who plays Jane Oliver, a vicar struggling to conceal her affair with the only witness to the crime. Oo-er.

It all sounds a bit Broadchurch to us, and sure enough there’s a detective at the heart of it. Detective Inspector Kip Glaspie, who refuses to accept that the murder is a random act of senseless violence, will be played by none other than Carey Mulligan, another Doctor Who alumnus who’s now best known for her roles in films such as An Education and 2013’s The Great Gatsby.

Just two years ago she was nominated for a Tony award for her performance in the Broadway revival of Skylight, a 1995 play by David Hare, the writer also responsible for this new drama.

He’s written for the screen before, of course, having penned the screenplay for The Hours and Denial, but this will be his first original TV series. In a statement, the BBC said: “Hare’s electrifying writing acts as a moving spotlight, asking crucial questions about the state of modern Britain.”

Add the anticipated quality of the script to the impressive cast, and we’re very excited indeed about this one. Look out for it on Netflix later this year.
