Just like his MI5 alter ego Danny Hunter, David Oyewolo may have insider info on what’s really going on with another famous member of Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

We’re talking, of course, about James Bond, who’s been played by Daniel Craig since 2006 and the 21st movie, Casino Royale.

Now, unless you’ve been cryogenically frozen for the last year, or injected with a fast-acting but temporary sedative (non-MI5 fans, look it up), you’ll be aware that there’s a good deal of speculation about whether or not Craig will reprise the role, especially after he confessed he wasn’t too keen.

One person who might know a bit about that is David, who until last month was performing on stage every night in New York alongside Daniel in Othello.

He appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night (February 9), and, amidst talking about new movie A United Kingdom, and his award-winning performance as Martin Luther King in 2014’s Selma, he let something slip about Bond’s future.

Like many of us, host Stephen Colbert thought the role of 007 might soon be up for grabs, and wondered if David had considered the possibility of a “black Bond.” David, on the other hand, wasn’t so sure — not that it wouldn’t work, but that Craig had vacated the role in the first place.

“We don’t know that,” he said, after Colbert suggested Craig would no longer be playing Bond.

It turned out David had good reason to think Craig was still very much in the saddle. Want to know why? He said: “I’ve been in a dressing room with him for three months.” Though he didn’t divulge anymore of what they talked about, we’re guessing the guys’ behind-the-scenes chatter was pretty revealing.

Or, in true MI5 style, perhaps he overheard something he shouldn’t have:

Of course, Bond fans and regular Anglo readers will know David’s already been cast in the role of the dashing secret agent. But for now at least, it seems it’ll be the Iago to his Othello who’ll be playing him on the big screen.

A United Kingdom starring David and Rosamund Pike opens in theaters today (February 10).

Do you think David should throw his hat in the ring as a future 007?
