Doctor Who alum Karen Gillan has confirmed her Guardians of the Galaxy character Nebula will feature in Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-unnamed sequel.
She’s the latest name to be added to the Marvel movie’s vast ensemble cast of mutants, gods and superheroes that includes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). And then there’s the possibility of Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch teaming up once again after locking horns in Thor: Ragnorok.
As the daughter of the villainous Thanos (Josh Brolin), Nebula is sure to have a key role, though Karen played it down somewhat when she let slip her involvement.
“I’ll be making a little appearance in the next Avengers movie,” she told the BBC, although it’s unclear if she’s just being coy or if it really is a small part.
Karen was speaking on the set of Tupperware Party, an independent film she wrote and is directing, and in which she’s also starring. Set in her home city of Inverness, Scotland, it tells the story of Lucy, a girl dealing with the suicide of her best friend.
It’s due to be released later this year, meaning Karen will rarely be far from the big screen over the next 12 months. In 2017 alone she’s due to reprise her role as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume Two, appear alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in The Circle, and feature in a follow-up to 1995’s Robin Williams hit movie Jumanji.
The Avengers throwdown, then, will just be another movie to add to the multi-talented young actress’s already packed schedule, as she continues her post-TARDIS rise to mega-stardom. It’s due to start filming this month, meaning it won’t hit theaters until May 2018.
