There’s no denying Katherine Waterston has had a great 2016, what with starring in one of the year’s biggest movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Next up though is her biggest role to date: She’s playing the lead role in Alien: Covenant, the next installment of the Alien franchise and a sequel to 2012’s Prometheus.

We got a glimpse of her character in May, but a new photo recently released (December 21) reminds us of another well-known spaceship survivor:

Yeah, Katherine looks awfully like Sigourney Weaver‘s Ellen Ripley in this latest pic.

Not much else is known about her character Daniels, other than the fact that she’s a crew member of the Covenant, a colony ship bound for a remote planet that turns out to be rather more dangerous than anticipated and whose only inhabitant is the synthetic and survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition, David (Katherine’s Steve Jobs co-star Michael Fassbender).

This week also brought confirmation that James Franco will play her husband and the captain of the ship, meaning he’ll interact with other crew members played by Eastbound & Down‘s Danny McBride, Demián Bichir (A Better Life, The Hateful Eight), and Billy Crudup (Spotlight).

In addition to the casting news, this photo was just released today (December 22). It’s definitely jarring and makes us wonder exactly what is happening on this ship:

How Daniels and the Covenant crew links up with Ripley and the original 1979 Alien is yet to be seen, but, rest assured, with three more prequel films to go, it’ll all start making sense soon.

Alien: Covenant opens in theaters on May 19, 2017.
