The Defenders are shaping up to be a formidable bunch, what with Daredevil and Jessica Jones each with a standalone series of their own, Luke Cage’s arrival on Netflix last month, and the announcement last week that the quartet’s final member, the Iron Fist, will make his debut next year.
All four are then set to star in The Defenders, but who could possibly take on all of them? That’s exactly the question executive producer Jeph Loeb posed the audience at New York Comic Con on Saturday (October 8).
Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), and Charlie Cox (Daredevil) had joined Finn Jones on stage at the end of a preview of upcoming series Iron Fist, marking the first time all four members of Marvel’s crime fighting team had been seen together at the same time.

Normally all four Defenders on one stage would be exciting enough, but that wasn’t all. Loeb had warned the audience not to leave the preview early or they’d miss something good, and he wasn’t joking.
There was an audible hush from the crowd as he started to introduce the name of the person cast to play their villain, followed by whoops and gasps of glee when he said the magic words “Ms. Sigourney Weaver“:
Did you see how she materializes suddenly in the middle of the stage? Probably just a glitch in the edit, but we prefer to think it’s Weaver-magic.
We don’t know yet which villain she’ll be, though fans of the comics have already started guessing, especially since all signs so far seem to point to The Hand being the main bad guys in this epic team-up series.
Final installment The Defenders will arrive on Netflix some time in late 2017, but in the mean time whet your appetite with this trailer for Iron Fist, also released on Saturday:
