It’s easy to be cynical about “Carpool Karaoke.” The segment of The Late Late Show has featured some incredible stars, but now, the more wildly popular it gets, they almost always have something to sell.

So yes, Lady Gaga‘s latest album Joanne dropped Friday (October 21). And yes, the first song she and host James Corden sang was current single “Perfect Illusion.” But her long-awaited appearance on the segment last night (October 25) was still nothing less than a joy to watch.

First, she belted out hit after hit, from “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face” to “Born This Way” and “The Edge of Glory,” giving James the chance to quiz her in between on her songwriting technique and some of her more quirky lyrics.

“Rah rah ah-ah-ah! / Ro mah ro-mah-mah / Gaga oh-la-la!”, anyone?

Then there was the moment she took the wheel instead of James, a first in “Carpool” history. But the best part was the chemistry between her and James, as they teased each other, chatted about her upcoming Super Bowl performance,, and even duetted on a brief cover of “Liquid Dreams” by boyband O-Town (Bet you’d forgotten that one, eh?).

By the end of the clip, James’ admiration led him to model his own versions of some of Gaga’s most outrageous costumes, including, thanks to the careful positioning of a few slices of ham, the notorious “meat dress”:

They got on so well Gaga even hijacked James’ opening monologue, before joining Reggie Watts and the house band for the rest of the show:
