Having trouble imagining what a Dreamworks animation directed by master of the macabre Guillermo Del Toro would look like? Well, the trailer released on Saturday (October 8) means you no longer have to.

Eight years in the making, the Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim director’s highly anticipated animated series Trollhunters will finally debut on Netflix in December.

It stars Frasier‘s Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman (who collaborates frequently with the director, most notably in Hellboy), Charlie Saxton (Hung), Amy Landecker (Transparent), and Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead).

Most poignant of all, however, is the contribution of Anton Yelchin, who died in June at the age of 27, but not before completing most of his work on the first season.

He plays 15-year-old Jim, who discovers a world of trolls beneath his hometown. After stumbling upon a magical amulet, he is transformed into the Trollhunter, meaning he has to juggle homework and play rehearsal while fighting bad trolls alongside best friend Toby (Saxton) and wise four-armed troll Blinky (Grammer).

It’s big, it’s colorful, and it’s jam-packed with magical action sequences, just as we’ve come to expect from Dreamworks. But also evident is Del Toro’s style, especially in the character designs. Here’s the trailer:

Trollhunters will premiere on Netflix on December 23.
