If you were online at all yesterday you may have noticed the internet was lit up with praise of Natalie Portman‘s portrayal of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the trailer for the forthcoming film Jackie.
The American icon was married to President John F. Kennedy. The trailer opens with the beautifully eerie song “Camelot” sung by actor Richard Burton. Eerie, because we know the American royalty’s Camelot will ultimately crumble.
In case you missed the trailer, here is Portman putting on a brave face as Jackie, following the assassination of her husband, father to her children and U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1963:
For those who were alive when J.F.K was assassinated, most remember exactly where they were when hearing the news. For others, it may have been before their time, but the impact on the United States and the rest of the world is still understood.
While it’s a weighty subject and something that will never be forgotten, on a lighter note, Portman is receiving accolades based on the first look. And this is just based on the trailer.
