This Thursday (September 8) marks the 50th anniversary of the broadcast of the very first episode of Star Trek. At the time it had a five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no man has gone before. It has now exceeded this meager brief by a factor of 10, also spawning five distinct TV shows (with a sixth, Star Trek: Discovery on the way) and thirteen movies.
To mark the occasion, BBC AMERICA will air a special Star Trek marathon of uncut digitally remastered HD versions of episodes from seasons one and two of the original series, starting with “The Man Trap” at 8:30 pm (7:30c). The marathon will run through Sunday, September 11.
