Looks like Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have got competition, and we’re not talking about Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, or even Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu in Elementary.

Deadline is reporting that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have signed up to play high-functioning sociopath (not psychopath—that’s very important) Sherlock Holmes and his trusty wing-man Doctor Watson. They’ll star in Holmes & Watson, a new comedy film written and directed by Etan Cohen, who directed Will in Get Hard last year.

As pairings go, Will and John certainly have form. They’ve appeared in numerous films together, including 2006’s Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and again in 2008 for Step Brothers.

Will’s been attached to the project for quite some time, though the actor on board to play Watson was originally Sacha Baron Cohen, who dropped out when plans stalled and was replaced by Will’s ol’ mucker John.

The game is finally afoot for this adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle‘s much-adapted books however, with production expected to start just after Thanksgiving.

And from the look of things Will at least is ready: He’s already got a plaid hat, though it’s not quite a deerstalker. The question is, will they be any match for our favorite detective duo?
