So you think you like Futurama, do you? Watched every episode? Catch yourself humming along to the theme tune every now and then? Maybe you’ve even cosplayed as your favorite character, but the fact remains: you don’t like Futurama as much as the guys behind new movie Fan-o-rama like Futurama.

They love the cartoon show so much, they’ve stumped up the cash and spent years putting together a live-action movie version, and finally, below, is the trailer.

Why? you may well ask. Well, why the hell not? But it’s a question the team have already anticipated, replacing the usual ratings panel that precedes a trailer with the phrase: “Audiences will no doubt question the creator’s motive, self-respect, and sanity”.

They’ve approached it with professionalism as well as enthusiasm, having sought “feature quality” effects, and even enlisted the help of Rich Little, the legendary voice actor dubbed the “man of a thousand voices” by Mel Blanc (aka Bugs Bunny), who crops up in the original series playing his own head, and who can be spotted in this trailer at 00:48 playing that of Richard Nixon.

As a result the trailer manages to capture the characters, locations, and even the palette of the original cartoon. There’s Fry, Bender, Farnsworth, Hermes, and even the Hypnotoad, while lobster-like alien Professor Zoidberg also makes an appearance (and just wait until you see one-eyed captain Leela…).

Here’s the trailer:

The film’s website has more information. No word yet when the full film will be available, but we wish them every success in getting it finished.
