Let’s go through the checklist of cast members for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Michael Fassbender returns as an android (check). Noomi Rapace is all set to reprise her role as Elizabeth Shaw (check). Danny McBride will be driving the Covenant ship … wait, he’s a new face.
When making our way through the cast of Alien: Covenant, funny man McBride, probably best known as former MLB player Kenny Powers from Eastbound & Down, may be a bit of a surprise. But who says the future doesn’t need some comic relief. And, at this point, we don’t know if he will play his character straight or with a bit of humor.
What we do know is he’s the pilot of the exploration ship in the next installment of the Alien series.
McBride talked to Rolling Stone about his role, saying, “I’m the pilot of the spaceship Covenant, which is a colonization ship, searching for a planet we might start life anew.”
He doesn’t give away too many details about his role, but he does elaborate on what to expect in terms of effects, saying, “Most of the stuff is practical effects. When you’re running from an alien it’s really a dude in an alien suit coming after you!”
There will be an alien chasing the crew (check).
McBride talked about the experience, saying, “The sets are incredible and you’re in them. We go through some inclement weather at one point on the spaceship and this whole gigantic set is on a gimbal, shaking up and down. You don’t have to use your imagination.”
Alien: Covenant, also starring Billy Crudup (check), is set to hit theaters in August 2017.
