The Starz drama based on Neil Gaiman‘s bestselling book will premiere in 2017, but fans at San Diego Comic-Con received a taste of the series in the form of a trailer, which you can watch now:

In the series, Ricky Whittle (The 100) stars as Shadow Moon, a convict released from prison early upon news that his wife has been killed in a car crash. On his way home, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), who is revealed to be the Norse god Odin in human form. The series will depict the battle between the old gods of mythology and religion with the new gods of technology, media, and drugs.

The series has been created by Bryan Fuller, the visionary behind Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, and Wonderfalls, and Michael Green, who previously created the drama Kings starring McShane. During the series’ San Diego Comic-Con panel, it was revealed that Broadway icon Kristin Chenoweth, who starred in Fuller’s Pushing Daisies, would play the goddess Easter, a casting choice that received raves on social media. The series also stars Pablo Schreiber, Emily Browning, Yetide Badaki, Crispin Glover, Gillian Anderson, and Bruce Langley.

American Gods will make its debut on Starz in January.
