Ever since we heard about HBO’s upcoming comedy series Divorce we’ve been psyched, and for two major reasons.

Reason One: Sarah Jessica Parker. She’s a brilliant comedy actress, and this is a major new vehicle for her talents. She plays Frances, who suddenly begins to reassess her life and make a fresh start, though she finds it harder than she thought.

Divorce also marks her return to TV after iconic series Sex and the City wrapped in 2004, and you can’t blame us for squinting past Frances’ brown dowdy hair and decidedly un-SATC outfits to see Carrie Bradshaw, and wonder if this is a kind of update on what she’s been getting up to since we last crossed her path. Ok, so you can blame us. But we did it anyway.

And Reason Two? Well, that’ll be writer Sharon Horgan. Sharon is responsible for some of our favorite shows, including the achingly funny Catastrophe (currently available on Amazon Prime) and BBC sitcom Pulling, a distinctly British answer to SATC, with a group of single women slumming it together in a shared house in the London suburbs, rather than tripping out of taxis into swanky New York restaurants and loft apartments.

There are other reasons of course. Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man 3, Sideways) co-stars as Frances’ husband Robert, with Mad Men‘s Talia Balsam playing Dallas, a friend of Frances; Molly Shannon (Enlightened) playing Frances’ highly strung friend Charlotte, err – we mean Diane; and Tracy Letts as series regular Nick.

All in all it’s made us very excited indeed about this series. And now finally there’s a trailer—or, in true Carrie speak, a “long lead tease”:

Divorce premieres on HBO this fall.
