Director Tim Burton‘s film adaptation of the YA novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children hits theaters this coming September.
Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Ender’s Game) takes on the role of 16-year-old Jake Portman (Jacob in the novel). After his grandfather’s passing, Jake follows clues to find out more about his grandfather and what actually happened leading up to this death. The path takes him to the orphanage of Miss Peregrine (Eva Green) in Wales, where his grandfather lived as a youth.
We received a first look at the official trailer this past March, and now we get a more detailed look at the characters and their abilities:
The book came out in 2011, which was American author Ransom Riggs’ debut novel. Riggs formulated his story after coming across some out-of-the-ordinary photographs. He initially started out making a picture book, but the stories written to accompany the photographs took on a life of their own, resulting in the fully fleshed-out story.
Burton told Entertainment Weekly that he also found the photos inspiring in an earlier interview, saying, “They’re quite compelling. They remind me of old horror movies, or dreams.”
In addition to Butterfield and Green, you can look for other familiar faces like Dame Judi Dench, Rupert Everett, Chris O’Dowd, Terence Stamp, Ella Purnell, Kim Dickens, Allison Janney and Samuel L. Jackson.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children hits U.S. theaters on September 30, 2016.
