Anyone thinking the upcoming Power Rangers movie would only appeal to nostalgic ’90s kids might change their mind at news that Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston is joining the cast.
Cranston revealed the news himself yesterday (June 21) on his Twitter account:
Excited to play #Zordon in the #PowerRangersMovie! T or F: #BlueRanger Billy Cranston was named after what actor? https://t.co/d3ltjpcDKb

The answer, by the way, is “true.” Cranston recently revealed that early on in his career he voiced a number of the villains in the original TV series. Don’t believe us? Well, here he is as “Twin Man” and here he is as “Snizzard”.
Now he’ll return to the franchise as a hero—or, more specifically, the Rangers’ big, blue mentor Zordon, who spends most of his time floating around as a bald head in a tube. A bit like this:
Which makes sense, as Breaking Bad fans know it won’t be the first time Bryan Cranston has sported a bald head. Zordon is also the ultimate foe of Rita Repulsa, who’ll be played in the movie by Elizabeth Banks, and the being that helps train them in their battle against her.
The news was confirmed swiftly afterwards by the movie’s official account:
The mighty #Zordon has officially been cast! Please welcome #BryanCranston to the #PowerRangersMovie. pic.twitter.com/MbJDR7PnfI
