Who is Doctor Thorne? This question is asked by many in the recently released trailer for Julian Fellowes‘ new series, airing on ITV in the U.K. and Amazon Prime in the U.S.

Thorne (Tom Hollander) himself provides some insight in the below clip, saying, “I have not made my mark in public life. I have built no railway. I have neither fortune nor title. But I have some skill in saving lives.”

Ah, that’s a redeeming quality. But it may not be enough in 19th century England to win the favor of his contemporaries.

You can find out more about Doctor Thorne in the below clip:

The town drunk is portrayed by Ian McShane. Thorne’s beloved niece is played by Stefanie Martini, with Alison Brie taking on the role of her American counterpart. Rebecca Front holds down the fort as the money-hungry Lady Gresham. Harry Richardson steps into the role of her earnest son Frank Gresham.

Doctor Thorne will be available on Amazon Prime on May 20.

Does this have the makings of a classic?
