Turns out Star Wars movies are now a lot like London buses: you wait ages for one, then two turn up at once.

In the same week The Force Awakens becomes available on DVD and to download, the first teaser trailer has been released for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a spin-off prequel to the sequels that were actually prequels because they came before in the narrative scheme of things.

Oh, you know what we mean.

Set before the events of the original 1977 Star Wars, the movie tells the story of the brave Rebels who first stole the plans for the Death Star—the same plans that Princess Leia stored in the memory banks of R2D2 in A New Hope, allowing Luke Skywalker and chums to blow it up.

And at last with this teaser trailer we have an idea what that might look like:

Did someone say duuh-duuh-duh-duh-duuh?

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters), it stars Felicity Jones, who was Oscar-nominated for her performance as Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything, as the Rebel leader, with Forest Whittaker (The Shield, Last King of Scotland), Diego Luna (Milk, Mr Lonely) and Hannibal’s Mads Mikkelsen also in attendance.

Little more is known about the story and characters, but rest assured every frame of this trailer will be dissected for clues in the coming months.

It’s certainly a golden age for fans of The Force: Rogue One is the first of several planned spin-off movies that will make Star Wars an annual event. It’s slated for release on December 16, with Rian Johnson‘s Episode VIII following a year later, a Han Solo spin-off movie coming in 2018, and then Episode IX capping off the Skywalker saga in 2019.

As Yoda might say: squeee! (Excited are we.)
