Daniel Radcliffe was the “it” guy at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, premiering his quirky film Swiss Army Man.
(Quick Disclaimer: Of course, Radcliffe (Victor Frankenstein, A Young Doctor’s Notebook) is always the “it” guy to us here at Anglophenia.)
His scene-stealing role, as a corpse that washes up on a deserted island, made headlines left and right when Sundance-goers got a peek at an advance screening this past January. The polarizing film shows Radcliffe pushing himself to be in more experimental, challenging, even button-pushing roles.
Now, a trailer has been released for the rest of the world to take a look.
Radcliffe stars opposite Paul Dano (Ruby Sparks, War & Peace). Dano’s character is stranded on a desert island. When we meet him in the trailer, he’s given up all hope of getting off the island. That’s until Radcliffe’s dead body lands on the beach.
Even though the pleasant surprise is deceased, Dano’s character adopts him as his new friend, confidant, and a reason to fight his way off the island.
Don’t get us wrong; Radcliffe doesn’t spend the entire movie laying on the ground like a limp fish. Dano’s character gives him life, with hallucination-driven interactions.
You can see this dynamic duo in action in the below clip:
Swiss Army Man is set to hit U.S. theaters on July 1. We’re pretty psyched to see Radcliffe change it up a bit in this this risk-taking role.
We can also look for Radcliffe in Now You See Me 2, Imperium, and Young Americans, all out in 2016.
We just saw Dano in the BBC production of War & Peace. He’s set to star in the 2017 sci-fi adventure film Okja, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, and Tilda Swinton.
