Having started out life on our screens, Torchwood was adapted into audio plays for our speakers—and soon we’ll be able to hold it in our grubby little hands.

According to io9, Titan Comics announced yesterday (April 13) that Captain Jack and his team would soon be starting out on new adventures in a series of comics.

That’s not all that Captain Jack will be doing either: the writer behind the new books is none other than John Barrowman, the actor who played Jack Harkness, who’s put the series together along with his writer sister, Carole E. Barrowman.

The sibling duo have previously partnered on John’s autobiography, a novel called Hollow Earth, and a comic strip called “The Selkie” that appeared in the Torchwood magazine. Nor is this their first comic book series, either—in January they launched Arrow: The Dark Archer, a digital comic series based on Barrowman’s charming Arrow villain, Malcolm Merlyn.

The Torchwood comic will pick up where the audio adventures left off, catching up with Captain Jack as he returns to Cardiff and meets up with old pal Gwen Cooper (played in the TV series by Eve Myles) and her husband Rhys (Kai Owen). Needless to say, he quickly needs her help, this time in finding some dangerous technology that’s been nabbed by a shadowy new organization.

The debut issue, available on July 6, comes with different covers to collect. John’s been posting some of them on Twitter, and fans of the show have been guessing what’s in store for their favorite Welsh alien-hunters:

Let’s just say he’s very, very excited. As are we. Welcome back, Torchwood!
