Robert Downey Jr. first took on the role of Sherlock Holmes in 2009. The follow-up, Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, premiered in 2011.
There’s been a bit of a delay with the third installment, five years to be exact. Downey Jr. has had his hands full taking on the role of Tony Stark in the Iron Man series and other Marvel theatrical releases. And Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie has been tied up with other projects like The Man from U.N.C.L.E and the forthcoming Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.
But he hasn’t given up hope on revisiting the Sherlock Holmes series.
Downey Jr. talked to Shortlist, saying there are plans for him and director Ritchie to start work on the third installment in 2016.
He told Shortlist, “We’re talking about it right now.”
He’s all on board, saying, “If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week.”
That would be an interesting take.
He goes on to talk about how much he enjoys being on set, saying, “When we’re making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook.”
It sounds like it takes a lot out of him, with Downey Jr. saying, “It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it.”
Alright, well, rest up, Robert. We want you at your best.
Downey Jr. has completed filming on Captain America: Civil War and is confirmed to star in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming as Tony Stark.
