Customers in a comic book store in New York had a surprise on Sunday when a strangely-dressed sorcerer started browsing the racks.

They were even more surprised when it turned out it was none other than Benedict Cumberbatch, who, after a day’s filming Doctor Strange and dressed in the full regalia of the Master of the Mystic Arts, wanted nothing else than to buy a copy of the comic book that inspired the movie.

Twitter user @archsix6 was there to snap a photo:

Benedict and director Scott Derrickson posed for photos, signed autographs and went on their way, but not before being picked up by the store’s security camera:

Don’t you just love how, despite there being no audio on that video, you can tell he’s being his usual polite and charming self?

A month after footage appeared of them filming on a London street made to look like New York, it appears that producers have decided filming in New York City itself makes more sense.

This footage captured by fans on Saturday shows Benedict and co-star Chiwetel Ejiofor pulling themselves up from underneath a car and leaping off.

(Don’t get us wrong guys, it’s a tricky move to pull off—but we hope for their sake someone adds a mystic portal or a bigger spring in their step with a bit of CGI.)

The movie looks set to enter post-production any minute now, with director Scott Derrickson tweeting this after his and Benedict’s trip to the comic book store.

…just in time for a release date of November 4.
