You may have watched the Oscar-nominated Netflix documentary What Happened, Miss Simone?, which some have called definitive. But that hasn’t stopped Hollywood from giving the late icon and activist Nina Simone the biopic treatment. The new narrative feature film Nina looks at Simone’s career, with a particular focus on her years living in France. Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana plays the singer, and her casting has not been without some major controversy and backlash. David Oyelowo co-stars as Simone’s manager Clifton Henderson. Directed by Cynthia Mort, Nina hits theaters on April 22.
