The multi-talented Jordin Sparks has added another string to her frankly quite enormous bow.

Not satisfied with three best-selling albums and a Grammy nomination, the former American Idol winner has now signed up for a recurring role in ABC’s time-traveling show Time After Time.

The TV show will be based on writer Karl Alexander‘s 1979 sci-fi novel and its subsequent movie adaptation, which imagined 19th century British writer H.G. Wells had actually built a time machine and travelled to the future.

Deadline reports that Jordin will play New York stylist Jesse Givens, the roommate of museum curator Jane Walker, who catches Wells’ attention on his arrival in modern-day New York. British actor Freddie Stroma, known for his roles in UnREAL, Pitch Perfect and Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince, will star as Wells, while Genesis Rodriguez (Man on a Ledge) will portray Walker.

It’s not the first outing for Miss Sparks’ acting skills, of course. She’s previously appeared on TV shows CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Zoe Ever After, and featured in movies The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete and 2012’s Sparkle.

This recurring role will be one of her biggest acting roles yet—if the pilot gets picked up, that is. But with Dawson’s Creek and The Following creator Kevin Williamson behind it and Chaos Theory‘s Marcos Siega directing, it’s looking like a strong contender.
