Sarah Michelle Gellar will be making her return to network TV with the NBC reboot of Cruel Intentions.

How do we know this? Gellar took to her Instagram account to make the return official:

Gellar was already nearing cult status as Buffy the Vampire Slayer when she stepped into the role of teen seductress Kathryn Merteuil in the Cruel Intentions movie, a NYC prep school version of Dangerous Liaisons. Kathryn and her step-brother Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe) made an unseemly bet involving the new headmaster’s daughter (Reese Witherspoon) in the 1999 film.

The TV series picks up more than 15 years after the original story came to an end, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Kathryn is described in the pilot as, “A master manipulator who easily hides her self-serving machinations behind a facade of charm, poise and warmth.”

So, in other words, she hasn’t changed much.

Kathryn is now married and vying for control of Valmont International. Her plans are disrupted when her late brother Sebastian Valmont’s son Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith) enters the picture. Bash finds a secret journal, possibly Kathryn’s from the original movie, and learns of his father’s wicked ways.

Bash’s mother, Annette Hargrove Casey, originally played by Witherspoon in the film, will also appear in the TV series. We’re sure she’ll have ample opportunities to get under Kathryn’s skin.

Who will be playing Annette has yet to be announced.

Should we start a campaign to get Reese Witherspoon on set?
