And you’re invited!
If you’ve been looking for a new hobby and playing around with the idea of joining a book club but can’t make the commitment, maybe Emma Watson being the “showrunner” is the push you need.
Watson had the idea of a book club, reaching out to Twitter followers for some help in bringing it to life:
Hi Team, ❤️ I want to start a feminist book club but so far have only brainstormed ‘Feminist Book Club’ and ‘Emma Watson Book Club’.

She gave another shout as not quite settled on a name:
I am almost certain there is a more inspiring name out there…. Does anyone have any thoughts ?! #Emma‘sBookClub

With a little help from her friends, Watson came to a decision:
I’ve decided to go with ‘Our Shared Shelf’. @emilyfabb – I absolutely loved this. Thank you, thank you x

Now, get reading, the first book has been chosen:
It’s official – ‘Our Shared Shelf’ is up and running. First book – My life on the road. https://t.co/nVWNPy21za

We won’t all be shuffling to Watson’s house to sit in a circle and chat about our thoughts while sipping on wine, but we can check in with the actress at meetings hosted on her GoodReads bookshelf.
Watson posted directions on how it all works:
“As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too. The plan is to select and read a book every month, then discuss the work during the month’s last week (to give everyone time to read it!). I will post some questions/quotes to get things started, but I would love for this to grow into an open discussion with and between you all. Whenever possible I hope to have the author, or another prominent voice on the subject, join the conversation. If you fancy it, please join up and participate. Everyone is welcome. I would be honored!”
The author may be in attendance, too? This is all very exciting. Just think, you’ll be rubbing virtual elbows with other book club members like J.K. Rowling and Taylor Swift.
Have you signed up yet?
