We already know there’s a lot of love coming towards Doctor Who from the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit camp, especially from director Peter Jackson, a confirmed fan who also cast the Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy as Radagast in The Hobbit movies.

So it’s fitting that Peter Capaldi should take the time to visit the Hobbiton movie set while over in New Zealand and Australia for the Doctor Who Festival.

Steven Moffat recently made a wry aside to Metro on the topic of Peter Jackson directing a Who episode, saying getting an agreement is harder than you’d imagine:

“He’s a genuine big old Doctor Who fan. He’s mentioned it, and then we email him and he doesn’t reply.

“I think his plan is we all go to New Zealand and spend six months making it and our plan is he comes to Cardiff and makes it in 12 days. There’s that disparity.”
