Idris Elba stars in 'Beasts of No Nation.' (YouTube)

We get a more in-depth look at Luther star Idris Elba in the full-length trailer for the Netflix original Beasts of No Nation, premiering on October 16.

Elba takes on the role of a warlord who is also perceived as nurturing, looking after his young recruits in West Africa. In the below trailer he works to win his child warriors’ loyalty by talking to them about being a big family of strangers brought together:

The film is based on the powerful story told in Uzodinma Iweala’s 2006 novel by the same name, introducing newcomer Abraham Attah as the young narrator Agu.

The film will be available in select theaters and on Netflix.

Elba has finished filming the two-part Luther special, which is coming soon to BBC AMERICA. We can also look forward to seeing the British actor in 2016’s Bastille Day and Star Trek Beyond. He’s confirmed to lend his voice to The Jungle Book and Finding Dory, also released in 2016.
