Sir John Hurt has revealed that he’s been given a clean bill of health by doctors, a mere four months after they discovered that he had pancreatic cancer. At the time he issued a statement saying “I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team” and it seems everything has gone as well as could be expected in the circumstances.

Speaking to the Mail at the ceremony for the Man Booker Prize this week, he said: “I had a final scan and it’s all gone brilliantly. I had the final scan yesterday (October 12) and I saw my oncologist this morning.

“I am overjoyed, I am thrilled. It all looks great for the future, it’s fantastic.”

Now all we need is for someone to make one of those split-screen memes that says “John Hurt/John Unhurt” and everything will be back to normal.
