Rupert Grint has signed on to star in a put pilot to air on NBC, reports Entertainment Weekly.

What’s a put pilot you ask? Good question. Basically the actors and team will film the pilot, with the plan of it turning into a series. If for some reason the one-hour pilot isn’t picked up as a series, then NBC will be penalized.

It sounds like a put pilot is a way to protect those committing their time and effort, and avoid the end result being fruitless. In some cases—actually a lot of cases—a pilot is filmed but never seen.

With all that said, what’s the pilot about? As of now, it’s untitled, but it revolves around a young man (Grint) living in NYC. His late father created a comic book series called Imperial City.

Grint’s character believes he owns every issue released but learns there is one more issue out in the world. This revelation leads him to something even more intriguing about Imperial City.

The one-hour drama is being written by Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta.

We’re feeling confident in this project. What about you?
