Amanda Abbington, who co-stars in Sherlock as Mary Morstan, is excited for the upcoming special, airing on December 25.
She didn’t say a lot, no spoilers here, but she said enough, telling Radio Times, “It’s not what you think.”
Hmm, what do we think it is? We learned over the summer that it’s a one-off episode set in the Victorian era, with co-creator Steven Moffat saying at San Diego Comic-Con, “It’s a variation on Sherlock that’s more in keeping with the original [Arthur Conan Doyle stories].”
Abbington goes on to say in the recent Radio Times interview, “People say the perfect thing was that Sherlock was modern day. But I know what’s happened. There’s more to this … although I can say that it’s great.”
Well, she’s gone and done it, our interest is even more piqued.
If you missed it the first time around, here’s the trailer for the Christmas special starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, Abbington’s real life partner Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson and Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson:
In August Abbington tweeted a note gushing about starting filming on the fourth season. We swung by her Twitter page for more clues on the above, but all we came up with was this cute tweet, courtesy of her son, promoting her new British series Cuffs. While off topic, we thought we’d share:
