Alex Kingston returning to Doctor Who as Professor River Song isn’t the only exciting casting news today, with Doctor Who‘s Karen Gillan confirmed to join the forthcoming film The Circle, reports Deadline.
Gillan portrayed companion Amy Pond opposite Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill from 2008-2013. In 2014 we saw her in Guardians of the Galaxy as Nebula. Now she’s returning to the big screen, starring opposite Hollywood heavy hitters Emma Watson (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Tom Hanks (Saving Mr. Banks).
We first learned of Watson’s role in the film adaptation of Dave Eggers‘ novel in June 2015.
The novel by the same name came out in 2013, and its plot revolves around recent college graduate Mae (Watson), who lands a job at a powerful tech company. She starts off in customer service but quickly advances through the ranks.
Gillan is set to take on the role of Annie, Mae’s college roommate. Annie also works at the company and helps get her best friend a job there. But she soon becomes envious of Mae’s success.
Hanks portrays Kalden, another coworker at the company, but one with a bit of mystery: no one seems to know what he does or what department he even works in.
Gillan was just seen in the TV movie 7 Days in Hell, also starring Kit Harington (Game of Thrones). She’s completed filming on the romantic comedy The List, with the release date yet to be confirmed. She’s set to star in the TV miniseries The Devil You Know, set in 17th-century New England during the Salem witch trials. We can also look forward to seeing Gillan in the 2016 revenge western film In a Valley of Violence.
