Coming out of Disney’s D23 convention over the weekend, we’ve been given our first look at Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff movie Rogue One. The Birmingham-born actress was pictured alongside her newly announced co-stars in the film, which has just begun shooting at Pinewood Studios in the U.K.
There’s still very little known about the plot of the film, except that it takes place before the events of the first-produced film A New Hope; but from the looks of this picture, the Oscar-nominated actress and her cohorts seem likely to be playing a group of pilots on the Rebel side of the war. Fellow cast members include Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk. Also pictured in the promo shot is Riz Ahmed, best known for the lead role in the 2010 Brit comedy Four Lions.
The movie is directed by Gareth Edwards, the English filmmaker who previously helmed indie thriller Monsters and the 2014 Godzilla remake. It’s due to be released in December 2016, a year after the next Star Wars chapter proper The Force Awakens and will be followed by two further spinoffs. Hopefully we’ll get to see some footage from the film and a bit more information about who exactly Felicity is playing before too long.
